🃏 Make Them Pay, Not Fold 💸

You’re holding A♠ A♦.

The board runs A♣ 8♠ 4♥ J♣.
Villain called your flop bet and checks the turn.

You’ve got top set. Beautiful.

And this is exactly where a lot of players make the same mistake: they see a monster, fire a monster bet and proudly collect… a fold.

But if Villain folds, where’s the money?

The goal with a huge hand isn’t to prove how strong it is. It’s to figure out how much you can get a worse hand to put into the pot willingly.

🎯 What can Villain still have?

  • a weaker Ace
  • a Jack or an Eight
  • two pair
  • a pocket pair that doesn’t want to give up
  • clubs chasing the flush

Shove the turn, and a big part of that range disappears.

Give them a price they can talk themselves into paying, and suddenly one call can turn into another on the river.

Value betting is not about your hand only

Don’t size your bet around your own cards. Size it around the hand sitting across from you.

  • 40–60% of the pot can make more money than 100%.
  • Checking can give an aggressive opponent enough rope to bet for you.
  • Going big can still be right if the board is wet and their range is strong enough.

A monster hand gets you ahead. Getting paid for it is the actual skill.
